“The Moon is Beautiful” – Premiere in Hollywood
In November last year, the Japanese artist Ken Matsubara presented his solo exhibition “The Moon is Beautiful” at the church Kunst-Station Sankt Peter in Cologne. A short documentary of the same name about the exhibition was produced by Bruno Noaro, Berlin-based director of LFRFILMS.
The film has already received ten awards and will celebrate its world premiere on June 26 at the Dances With Films (DWF) Festival at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
In his captivating video installations, Ken Matsubara explores themes such as memory, repetition, and the transience of time.
For the installation at Kunst-Station Sankt Peter Cologne, moving images were projected into Tibetan singing bowls – creating a spiritual and meditative experience.
A central motif in Matsubara’s work is water, symbolizing the flow of life and its connection with the energies of the surrounding space.

Our gallery artist Yoshiaki Kaihatsu has been awarded the prestigious “Geijutsu Senshō Bunka-chō Daijin-shō” (Art Prize of the Japanese Minister of Culture, category: Contemporary Art). The award ceremony will take place on March 11.
Born in 1966 in Yamanashi, Kaihatsu’s artistic practice engages with everyday objects as well as current social issues. His works – including social sculptures, installations, and performances – are characterized by playful openness and a multilayered, interactive approach. His solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo last year was a great success.
The date of the award ceremony, March 11, is also a significant day in Japan. Following the Tōhoku earthquake of 2011, Kaihatsu took a more explicitly political stance and developed art projects and actions addressing the impact of the disaster on affected people and regions. These experiences continue to shape his work to this day.
