With new paintings by Nobuyuki Osaki, the Mikiko Sato Gallery starts the new season on 08.09.2017. For the first time, his works with mirrors will also be exhibited.

Perceptions and memories have always played decisive roles in Osaki's works. In his art, he not only questions the fictionality of the images, but also the truth of what is depicted. Through his work, he addresses the blurring of time, which can no longer be defined by concrete facts and literally dissolves in the space of allusions and possibilities.

His paintings now on display are themed "Multiple Lighting" and are entirely dedicated to the time perspectives of past, present and future. With photographic works alligned together with images of traditional techniques such as wood printing, Osaki captures moments of the dissipation of memories. These result from personal stories of friends and acquaintances, which only vaguely tell of the actual course of past events. The artist is fascinated by the time theory of the philosophy professor Bradford Skow. It is based on the assumption of a simultaneity of past and future, through which the present moves like a spotlight. It was also the reason for Nobuyuki Osaki's new mirror works, which reflect, as it were, the searching present within the different times of the images.... show less
