Yuki Yamamoto’s work begins with the simple circle, through which he explores new relationships between color and space. Circular discs embedded in transparent layers overlap real and illusionistic spatial effects, forming an autonomous pictorial world.

In recent years, he has developed, together with a programmer, his own drawing system that incorporates random numbers. In addition, in collaboration with Keio University in Tokyo, he expanded his circle motif into the three-dimensionality of the sphere.

Starting next week (September 27), he will take part in the group exhibition “ART POWER SALUTE” at UNION SODA in Fukuoka (curated by Seigo Hirano / theme: Flow Glow Blow Bubbles). In June next year, after three years, a solo exhibition in Hamburg is planned. And already this December, three new works will arrive at Mikiko Sato Gallery. We are very much looking forward to it!

      Dear friends of the gallery,

We are delighted to share some wonderful news with you today:
Our gallery artist Shimpei Yoshida (*1992 in Nara, Japan; lives and works in Tokyo) will present a solo exhibition this autumn at the STUDIO of Kunsthalle Mannheim!

The exhibition, curated by Dr. Stefano Agresti, opens on September 4.

The works on view take their starting point from an old family photo album that Yoshida accidentally discovered in 2019 during a stay in Hamburg. Inspired by these anonymous images, he developed a series of portraits of an imaginary family, situated between memory and imagination.

In this new series, the artist’s personal memories and experiences intertwine with his impressions from Germany – in a quiet and sensitive manner. Ten oil paintings of various formats will be presented.

If you are in the area, we would be very happy to welcome your visit!

“The Moon is Beautiful” – Premiere in Hollywood

In November last year, the Japanese artist Ken Matsubara presented his solo exhibition “The Moon is Beautiful” at the church Kunst-Station Sankt Peter in Cologne. A short documentary of the same name about the exhibition was produced by Bruno Noaro, Berlin-based director of LFRFILMS.

The film has already received ten awards and will celebrate its world premiere on June 26 at the Dances With Films (DWF) Festival at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

In his captivating video installations, Ken Matsubara explores themes such as memory, repetition, and the transience of time.

For the installation at Kunst-Station Sankt Peter Cologne, moving images were projected into Tibetan singing bowls – creating a spiritual and meditative experience.

A central motif in Matsubara’s work is water, symbolizing the flow of life and its connection with the energies of the surrounding space.
