The Sapporo-based artist Hiroshi Takeda is currently presenting Portrait 292 as part of the Muroran Art Project / Festival for Iron and Light in Muroran, Hokkaidō, a video installation in the former Ginya department store. The city of Muroran is located at the tip of the Etomo Peninsula, which juts out into Funka Bay. After the opening of railway lines that transported coal from Sorachi and Yūbari, Muroran developed into an important coal shipping port. With the establishment of iron and steelworks during the Meiji period, the city experienced rapid growth and became known as the “Iron City.” Since the decline of the steel industry from the 1970s onwards, however, the face of the city has gradually changed.
The Muroran Art Project takes this history and landscape as its backdrop and, under the theme of Iron and Light, invites various artists to participate. Takeda’s current video installation makes the city’s hidden energy and transformation visible through the interplay of light and color, offering visitors an intense visual experience.

Yuki Yamamoto’s work begins with the simple circle, through which he explores new relationships between color and space. Circular discs embedded in transparent layers overlap real and illusionistic spatial effects, forming an autonomous pictorial world.
In recent years, he has developed, together with a programmer, his own drawing system that incorporates random numbers. In addition, in collaboration with Keio University in Tokyo, he expanded his circle motif into the three-dimensionality of the sphere.
Starting next week (September 27), he will take part in the group exhibition “ART POWER SALUTE” at UNION SODA in Fukuoka (curated by Seigo Hirano / theme: Flow Glow Blow Bubbles). In June next year, after three years, a solo exhibition in Hamburg is planned. And already this December, three new works will arrive at Mikiko Sato Gallery. We are very much looking forward to it!
