線の森 / Linienwald (Forest of Lines)
A line traces the contours of things and separates one place from another.
Yet at the same time, it can follow the paths of memory, connect what is different, and give rise to spaces that have not yet come into view.
Kai Harada, Terumi Ishigami, and Toshifumi Hirose work with different materials and approaches. They draw on landscapes that linger in memory and perception, as well as images encountered unexpectedly in everyday life. Sensations moving between inside and outside, a city emerging in shifting light, places changing over time—all of these take on new forms through lines, shapes, and colors. Fragments leave their original contexts, meet in new ways, and open up other spaces.
Lines running across paper, lines carved into clay and rising into form, threads moving through fabric. Through drawing, shaping, and stitching, lines emerge that move between surface and volume, reality and memory, overlapping, crossing, and branching out.
We follow a single line with our eyes—and before we know it, find ourselves drawn into the space opening beyond it.
“Linienwald” is a place where the different perspectives of three artists intersect and open up new spaces.
