Paper Positions 2024: Paper Art Awards for Rikuo Ueda and Hiroyuki Abe

Five days, three artists, two Paper Art Awards (2nd place for Rikuo Ueda / 3rd place for Hiroyuki Abe) and countless exciting encounters and conversations - this is how we remember our participation in Paper Positions 2024 this year. For all those who couldn't be there (and those who just can't get enough), we summarize our personal highlights here.Paper Art Awards for Rikuo Ueda and Hiroyuki AbeTwo of the artists we exhibited at this year's Paper Positions were honored with one of the Paper Art Awards established by the Haus des Papiers. Rikuo Ueda was honored by the jury with 2nd place (silver) and Hiroyuki Abe with 3rd place (bronze). The two award-winning works will thus be added to the collection of the Haus des Papiers. Miyuki Tsugami - New group of works (etchings)

We are pleased to present a fascinating new series of works by the Japanese artist Miyuki Tsugami. With the help of an elaborate two-stage process consisting of classical etching and the subsequent use of carborundum (a material first used for etchings in Spain and regularly used there by artists such as Tàpies), Tsugami has succeeded in impressively recreating not only the typical fine lines of intaglio printing, but also the expressive brushstrokes of her watercolors and oil paintings. Her focus on motifs such as urban and natural landscapes as well as natural detail studies such as violets and cherry blossoms remains unchanged.The works can be viewed on our premises by appointment.
