      Next year, Hamburg and Osaka will be celebrating their 30th anniversary as twin cities. This event is celebrated with a diverse program of events that are held throughout the year. Artist Miyuki Tsugami grew up in the Japanese port city and will exhibit cityscapes from both places in her first solo exhibition at the MIKIKO SATO GALLERY in October 2019. For the purspose of making numerouspreliminary studies the artist visited Hamburg in early November of 2018.       A large-format installation by artist Ken'ichiro Taniguchi entitled Hecomi Study. The exploration of Sapporo's shape 2018 is now on permanent display on the second floor of the recently opened Sapporo Community Plaza (in a prestigious location opposite the Sapporo Library). The work is thus located at the heart of the newest meeting place for art and culture in the center of Hokkaido's capital. The modern, nine-storied building offers restaurants, cafés and the municipal library as well as rooms for workshops, events and lectures. The centerpiece of the architecture is a concert hall with about 2,300 seats, also usabke for theater and opera performances.

      As part of the exhibition Altering Home - Culture City of East Asia 2018 Kanazawa (September 15 to November 4, 2018) Motoi Yamamoto presents his new salt installation The Season of Purple at Gen-Chan House in Kanazawa, Japan. The exhibition space is a salon that offers cancer patients and their families a space for meetings and exchanges. Yamamoto and his wife, who died two years ago, have always found a way to spend important, shared time: "The salon is in an area where my wife and I used to live, and it is a place where cancer patients and their families gather. On a path where we are going to take countless times, there is a tall purple magnolia tree, telling us it's spring time each year. It is my hope that you have a beautiful flower in the living room, who has lost your loved ones, and who is leaving the world so soon at a young age.... show less
