“Beating Wings. Insects in Contemporary Art”

The relationship between man and insect is marked by ambivalences: "Benefit and harm, blessings and curses, fascination and phobia," writes Andrea Firmenich in the foreword to the exhibition catalog. However, in view of the worldwide decline in species and insect death, the perception of the small "harmful" species has changed in recent years. Once cursed primarily as a plague, the understanding of their necessity for the functioning of ecosystems is becoming increasingly part of public awareness.
